What a broker actually does

We are not a lender. We are the people who know which lender to ask — and what they need to see before they say yes.

That difference is worth money. A file sent to the wrong lender comes back as a decline, and declines stay on your credit file where the next lender can see them.

How it works

Three steps, and we handle the middle one

1

Tell us what you are financing

A short call. The asset, the entity buying it, and roughly what you are looking to spend. No paperwork at this stage.

2

We match it to the right lenders

Your file goes to the lenders whose criteria actually fit — rather than being shopped around, collecting declines that mark your credit file.

3

Decision, then settlement

We handle the lender paperwork and keep you posted until the asset is yours. You deal with the same broker the whole way through.

How we work

One broker, start to finish

You will not be handed between departments. The person who takes your first call is the person who prepares your file, speaks to the lenders and rings you when it settles.

That matters most when something needs explaining — a trust structure, a used asset, a year that looked unusual on paper. Files like those get declined by process. They get approved by someone who can put them in context.

Why Pura

A broker works for you, not for one bank

A panel of lenders, not one bank

We operate under Viking Aggregation's licence, which gives access to a broad panel rather than one institution's appetite on the day.

Structured around your cash flow

Term, balloon and structure change what an asset costs you month to month. We set those deliberately rather than taking the default.

Every entity type catered for

Sole trader, company, trust or partnership — each is assessed differently. We prepare the file the way the lender needs to see it.

Common questions

The things people ask before they call

Do I need a deposit?

Not always. Many equipment and vehicle lenders will fund the full purchase price for an established business with a clean credit file. Deposits come into play where the asset is older, the entity is newly formed, or the file needs support elsewhere.

Will talking to you affect my credit score?

No. A credit enquiry is only recorded when an application is lodged with a lender — not when we have a conversation.

That is exactly why we work out lender fit before lodging anything. A file shopped around indiscriminately collects declines, and those declines sit on your credit file where the next lender can see them.

How long does approval take?

For a straightforward asset purchase by an established entity, often a matter of days. Complex structures, older assets or files needing additional documentation take longer.

We will tell you early which of those you are, rather than letting you assume the shorter one.

Can I finance a used asset?

Yes. Age limits vary considerably by lender and by asset type — leisure craft and older machinery carry tighter rules than late-model vehicles. This is one of the main reasons lender choice matters as much as it does.

What is the difference between a chattel mortgage and a lease?

Broadly: under a chattel mortgage you own the asset from day one and the lender takes security over it. Under a lease the financier owns the asset and you pay to use it.

Which suits you depends on your entity structure and how the asset is treated in your accounts. We will walk you through the options, and we would always suggest confirming the tax treatment with your accountant.

What do you charge?

Fees and the commissions we may receive are set out in full in our Credit Guide, which we provide before any application is lodged. Ask us at the first call and we will tell you plainly.
